Symplectic Elements is a comprehensive and powerful scholarly information software solution which empowers organisations to collect, analyse, showcase & report on all of their scholarly activities.

Features

Credit where credit’s due

Increase the discoverability of publications, researchers, and institutional impact, building a comprehensive view of all research outputs that ensures nothing goes unnoticed. With Figshare’s support for over 1200 file formats, including non-traditional outputs such as videos, graphs, and presentations, data can be visualised to bring research to life.

Drive open access engagement
Elements identifies suitable research outputs which are not yet openly available, and lets researchers easily deposit them in Figshare directly from Elements with the push of a button. Not only does Elements make it simple for your researchers to deposit files to your institutional repository, it also offers reporting tools and dashboards allowing administrators to identify work that should be made openly available, monitor open access engagement and policy compliance, and take actions on researchers’ behalf.

Intelligent data harvesting

Intelligent data harvesting means Elements is always working for you in the background, continuously identifying and matching research outputs from Figshare and other data sources to automatically populate and update records in Elements.

Users can work wherever works best

Powerful bidirectional integration means that researchers can deposit via either Elements or directly to Figshare. Publications deposited directly into Figshare will be automatically harvested by Elements, creating a new record or linked to an existing record, retaining a consistent, comprehensive and current picture of all of a researcher’s publications.

“The deeply integrated environment we now have will greatly enhance our ability to manage the range of repository activities and strengthen our position in preparing for any future research assessment exercises.”

Amy Waldron, Digital Development Manager, University of Sussex

Streamline workflows and relieve administrative burden

Institutions can define open access strategy and workflows within the system to automate which publications are targeted for deposit, record exceptions, and create reports on compliance at a researcher, department or group level. Elements will automatically prompt researchers to deposit target publications to Figshare and guide them quickly and easily through the process, simplifying workflows for academics and administrators, increasing deposit rates, and removing the need for duplicate data entry.

Deposit guidance and funder compliance

Where policies mandate that publications are made openly available upon acceptance for publication, these can be deposited into Figshare via a dedicated Elements workflow, with prompts and calls-to-action in place to guide authors. Deposit advice from Sherpa/RoMEO is embedded as standard, and in addition administrators can provide their own guidance at the organisational level of for particular publishers or journals.

Set targets and monitor progress

Filter publications by parameters to review how you are progressing toward compliance, record exceptions, track library status and measure engagement levels for individuals or departments.

It is critical to our state’s economy that we utilise every aspect of our knowledge
and innovation talent across the public and private sectors. We’re incredibly proud
of what we’ve created with OIEx − better connecting the experts and resources at our
state research universities to the industries that can utilise them to push their breakthrough ideas to fruition.

John Carey, Chanceller, Ohio Department of Higher Education

We wanted to create a single, multi-university resource that provides
enhanced visibility into expertise, equipment and research
support services and available IP.

Tim Cain, Ohio Innovation Exchange

This tool connects our scholarly and research expertise with audiences like media,
prospective graduate students, and academic collaborators, while simultaneously
helping faculty keep track of the very important work they do. It is a game-changer for U of T.

I think the most important feature Symplectic Elements came with was interoperability
The fact that it had that flow through profiles to the repository was really, really valuable for us.
