Digital Science to deliver New Zealand’s National Research Information System using Symplectic Elements

5th September 2025

Digital Science has been selected to implement and deliver New Zealand’s National Research Information System, the New Zealand Research Information System (NZRIS), in close collaboration with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). The System will be built upon Digital Science’s research information management system, Symplectic Elements; a tried-and-tested solution which is already in use successfully across seven of New Zealand’s eight universities.

NZRIS will provide a central, open-access database for data about funded research in New Zealand, accessible to students, the public, media, government agencies, businesses, and the research community itself. The aim of NZRIS is to help create a more comprehensive picture of the research landscape, improve visibility of New Zealand’s science and innovation ecosystem, and support data-driven decision-making.
